Decreasing connection with nature
by Sandra Stoklaskova

These times we are living in the era of new technologies, when every day specialists come out with some uncommon or improved inventions. As technology and humanity is in progress, other subjects stagnate. This is also how it looks like with television and computers in comparison with spending time in nature. There was a research held, which found out that today's people are more interested in television and computers and consequently they spend less time in contact with nature, in parks or have less interest in conversations. Testimony to this fact is also decrease in camping, fishing, visiting parks or recreation in nature. Co-authors of research Oliver R.W.Pergams and Patricia A. Zaradic wrote in their report that declining nature participation has crucial implications for current conversation efforts. "The replacement of vigorous outdoor activities by sedentary, indoor videophilia has far-reaching consequences for physical and mental health, especially in children. Videophilia has been shown to be a cause of obesity, lack of socialization, attention disorders and poor academic performance," said Pergams in his statement. The research was based on data finding on visits to national and state parks, and disbursement of fishing and hunting licenses in Japan and United States. Conclusions are scary. In both countries researchers recognized fall in this measured facts from 18 to 25 percent, which has begun in dates of huge increase in video games, in 1980s and 1990s. People should be careful and revalue their attitude towards visiting several parks or spending time in nature, as less time outdoors could have unfortunate impact not only on their health but also their children's.
