Dangerous Rick
by Claudia Sonea

All warnings prove to be true. The NHC Advisory forecasted a Fall with heavy rains and a lot of hurricanes and by now, everything happened according to their predictions. After rejoicing that the hurricane Fred and the Tropical Storm Linda didn’t cause any damages, now there is an alarming possibility for Rick to get to hit land. According to the latest reports it one of the strongest North Pacific storm in more than a decade. U.S. National Hurricane Center announced that the Government of Mexico issued a hurricane watch for southern Baja California and that the western mainland of Mexico is monitored too. Hurricane Rick is expec! ted to reach southern Baja California by late Tuesday, which determines the experts to worry, although the strength of the hurricane will weaken by that time to somewhere between 109 and 86 mph. Just like Fred, Rick too was tagged as a Category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Scale. Although there is no certainty where the hurricane will hit, most meteorologists think it is the area where Los Cabos is situated. Although the denouement of the entire situation is expected to take place on Wednesday, authorities announced heavy rains and strong winds during the next couple of days in the southern Baja California Coast and the west central Coast of Mexico. Special warnings were issued for surfers and fishermen, but would the warnings be taken into consideration? Probably not, as Bisbee's Los Cabos fishing tournament was not postponed and surfers are already writing on forums expressing their eagerness to hit the waves. The Natio! nal Hurricane Center will post another advisory at later on th! is eveni ng, keeping the public informed and advising to prepare just in case there is even the smallest possibility for Rick to hit land. If you happen to live in the areas mentioned above, don’t forget to get food supplies and batteries, flashlights, rope, tarps, plastic bags, bad-weather clothing, but more importantly find a safe place to shelter (advisable would be a place without windows). Take care and stay connected, more to come….
